CHALLENGE

Cape Carteret Baptist Church needed a new facility – a worship center, concert hall, and gymnasium all wrapped up into one. There was considerable excitement at being able to build a multi-purpose facility tailored to the congregation’s needs from the ground up, but imagine the sound, lighting, and projection challenges of this hard surface building. Three completely different audiences sharing the same physical space.

The church engaged AVCON to help them design and build an integrated technology solution that bridged the needs of each audience and each unique setting – every time.

SOLUTION

AVCON had successfully overcome similar challenges for other churches and was able to advise both the Cape Carteret Baptist Church staff and the architect on the details needed to achieve predictable results. It was important to have “face to face” speech intelligibility, clear projection, and great theatrical lighting no matter which configuration was being used.

The AVCON team proactively addressed every potential issue that could detract from exceptional acoustics and affect the quality of worship. As part of that process a pre-construction assessment was performed. The need for HVAC mechanical noise control and acoustical wall paneling was identified and corrective measures implemented.

The integrated technology solution that AVCON specified gave the congregation powerful, yet simple-to-use functionality. The integrated control system offers unsurpassed flexibility whether a sound tech was in attendance or not – making it easy for any ministry to use the facility with confidence. In particular, the system’s preprogrammed interface cuts down on advance prep time. With its customized user interface, just one click of a button is all it takes to launch pre-set sound and lighting levels. The digital lighting and sound control will recall performance and rehearsal settings, a significant aid to operators with little or no technical knowledge.

AVCON is committed to ongoing quality assurance and, given the three-hour drive to Cape Carteret, proposed a solution that would enable them to rapidly respond to any issue. Using the latest in network-based remote access technology, AVCON has the ability to support, diagnose, trouble shoot and modify the system remotely.

The result is a true multi-purpose facility. Engineered acoustics, lighting, projection and sound reinforcement systems working together to engage the audience and deliver the message.
